This project is a computer modelling, analysis and design based project using finite element GSA software and Eurocode 5. A schematic plan indicates a proposal for a building structure planned on an octagonal theme to be constructed using cross-laminated timber panels. A structure within the limits of a maximum footprint of 30 metres by 30 metres is required. The footprint contains one basic 18 metre across flats octagonal shape structure with extensions on four of the octagonal faces. Glazing will be required in a number of panels. The design process should describe the alternative schemes considered and why these were rejected in order to reach the selected final scheme. The description of the structural arrangements must explain, with sketches as necessary, how lateral loads are transferred to the foundations and demonstrate how lateral stability is maintained. A key part of the submission is to demonstrate that the design has been developed to minimise its carbon footprint.
