You will be shown the film “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”. Further to watching the film, you are required to write a 3000 word essay which evidences your understanding of how occupational therapy and occupational science concepts can be synthesised to develop an understanding of human behaviour, using the characters and storyline of the film to provide examples of your chosen concepts.


You should select the concepts most relevant to the film, which have been covered within the module.


Examples from the film should be used to illustrate your understanding, knowledge and critical appraisal of the selected occupational therapy and occupational science concepts, and to contextualise the synthesis of them

  • Description/ explanation of concepts (30%)
  • Use of story to illustrate concepts (40 %)
  • Synthesis of occupational therapy and occupational science concepts (20%)
