Information Systems -Developing your Online Business presence

Information Systems – Group project

Developing your Online Business presence

What do we need to do?

Nowadays, online services such as online banking, trading and shopping has become an integral part of everyone’s life.  You and your team are part of a new emerging business that will take advantage of the Internet and Web Technologies. Together with your team, you need to discuss and decide what exact product(s) or services your business is going to ofer and deliver to your customers.

As you very well know, the online presence is crucial to the success of your company so your frst task is to develop a portolio website/portal that will expose your business to the world. This website should include detailed informaton about your product (or service) but also other informaton about how you are going to carry out your business: this includes informaton about your team members, roles and skillsets, informaton about your partners that will help you deliver your product/service, your pricing scheme and revenue model, as well as various channels of delivering and advertsing your product/service.

Next, you need to focus on the design of your website as this is the frst thing your (future) customers will see when they land on your site. There are several aspects you will have to think when it comes to design:

What are your unique design elements? To make your visitors remember you among the fock, you should implement some bold and unusual components in your design so that they remember you for long.

Your website should be user friendly. That means your website should be easy to navigate by the user

and fnd relevant informaton about your business. If you are implementng an online product catalogue feature, you have to provide the visitors with ample details and pictures about the product/services

As the number of mobile users constantly increases you should aim to make your website

Responsive, meaning it should ofer the same PC/desktop user experience to its Mobile users. Some designers tend to use heavy HTML coding, large-sized images, and big fash fles to improve the design and look of the website, but that can make the website slow to load. You cannot aford to have a slow loading site as people are not patent enough to wait for your pages to load and will quickly switch to your compettor.

In additon to your design, it’s a good practice to include in your website portfolio a privacy statement of how you plan to handle personal information. Check end slides of week 4(Plamen)/6(Atf) or look online as what this should look like.

Finally you can move one step further by implementng additonal functonalites to your website, such as “Search feld” that will allow your visitors to search info.; to increase the exposure of your business you can include links to your company social media accounts; integratng analytcal tools such as – Google Analytcs

– that will allow you to track and know your customers visitng your website. A list with available

products/services, and fnally (this is an optonal feature, likely not ofered by free version of ecommerce/websites builders) a payment service.

You can use any of discussed website development tools to deliver your website.

Group members will be asked about their contributon to their projects You shall beneft from lecture notes by both lecturers (i.e., Atf     Plamen) Your grading can involve both lecturers.
