The Tuskegee Syphilis Study is one of the most horrendous examples of research carried out in disregard of basic ethical principles of conduct. The publicity surrounding the study was one of the major influences leading to the codification of protection for human subjects (Jones, J. (1981). This research project shall be minimum seven (7) full pages typed, double spaced, with 1 inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, plus one full page containing your thoughts and concerns about the experiment and one page of References in APA format. Make sure you cover the pros and cons of the experiment and justify your thoughts with verifiable evidence. Explain your thoughts in detail. Cite examples to justify your thoughts. The maximum number of pages is 9, not including the “Reference” page. The \”Reference\” page should contain minimum 5 sources. One source should be a book and a minimum of three sources should be from scholarly journals.

A “Reference” page using APA format is required. This page is not included in the minimum page requirements. Also, APA format should be used for references inside your document. You may not claim other people’s work as your own. It must be cited.

This research project shall be in essay form. Do not answer the questions in short answer form. The questions and answers should be interlinked to form a coherent story of the Tuskegee experiment. Do not copy directly from the text. This is called plagiarism and is considered cheating. A grade of zero (0) will be given for all plagiarized work. The Tuskegee Experiment was based upon a previous international study. What was the original study and where did it originate? What was the purpose of the study? What were the results? Who or what were the principal investigators? Who were the participants (gender, race, age)? Why and how did this study end? Include the “who, what, when where and how”? Compare it to the Tuskegee Experiment (participants, purpose, timeframe, results).

During the Tuskegee Experiment, the United States embarked upon a similar study abroad. It was stated, that this Central American study had its roots in Tuskegee. What was the study and where did it originate? What was the purpose of the study? What were the results? What is the Belmont report and how did it relate to the Tuskegee Experiment? What were the proposed criteria for the evaluation of human participant’s research and how did the Tuskegee Experiment conform or fail to conform to each of the three criteria. Explain in detail.
